back to school

the kid: I get to go back to school today!
me: yep. are you excited?
the kid: yes. I think my friends missed me.
me: I'm sure they did.

good morning!

I woke up to the kid climbing on me to kiss my cheek and say "time to wake up, cute mommy". now THAT's a great way to start the day!

wake up call

me: mornin' sunshine. time to get up.
the kid: I'm still sleeping. zzzzzz.
me: don't you want to have time to play the wii before school?
the kid: no, I'm too tired.
me: oh. well, I guess I'll see if daddy's still in bed.
the kid: (sits straight up) NO! I'll do it. that's MY job.
(jumps off the bed, runs into our bedroom...)
the kid: GET OUTTA THIS BED, MISTER! 

reading...

reading with the kid last night... watching him sound out words and seeing the pure joy on his face when he realized he can read more words than he thought possible... now THAT's priceless!

what's in a name?

the hubby: do you want a cheese sandwich?
the kid: I don't like cheese sandwiches. I want a grilled cheese that isn't cooked.
(hubby looks at me, confused)
me: piece of bread, folded in half, cheese in the middle.
the kid: yeah, but don't cook it.
the hubby: (sigh) got it. one grilled cheese that isn't cooked coming right up.
the kid: thank you, daddy.
