name game

the kid: mommy, you can rename me if you want.
me: what?!
the kid: you can rename me. you know, change my name. but only if you want to.
me: I love your name. Matthew means gift of God, and that's what you are to me and daddy - you're a special gift from God.
the kid: I know. but you could give me another name, too.
me: like what?
the kid: I don't know. whatever you want it to be.
me: pickle.
the kid: no, that's a silly name.
me: then how about snarkblat?
the kid (giggling): mommy, nobody can be named snarkblat. that's crazy!
me: then what do you suggest?
the kid: um... how 'bout snuggle?

so yeah, the kid's *other* name is snuggle. just like the fabric softener bear.
