what families do

the kid: thank you for taking care of me when I was sick.
me: you're welcome. that's what I do.
the kid: because you love me, right?
me: yep. and daddy loves you, too.
the kid: I know that. you both always love me. and I love you, too. 'cause that's what families do, right?
me: right.
