miracles...
I just realized... 8 years ago today, at this very moment, I was 13.5 weeks pregnant and in the recovery room after having surgery to remove a huge ovarian tumor so "BabyL" would have room to grow. "the kid" and I are both living proof that God is still in the miracle business.

career change
the kid: mommy, do you know what I'm going to be when I grow up?
me: a restaurant owner.
the kid: nope. well, maybe after I retire. but first I'm going to be a pastor. and then after I retire, which will be a looooong time, then I'll be a restaurant owner.
me: awesome!
the kid: yeah, I know.

not boring
the hubby: so did your dad say whether he's been watching the olympics?
me: not much. he said it's too boring.
the kid: what?! he must not be watching figure skating. because figure skating is amazing! maybe we need to help him find the right parts to watch.

reading & snuggles
the kid: mommy, can I read to you?
me: yes, please do.
so we snuggled up on the couch with his book. such a beautiful start to the day. I always have time for that.

the kid and I have spent most of the day working on a" random" Afghan. he has been picking the next random color from my yarn stash, so it's OUR project. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised at how nicely some of these crazy color combos are working out.
the kid: mommy, sometimes random is just so beautiful, isn't it?
me: it sure is. and it's even more beautiful because we're doing it together.
the kid: yeah. it really is.

good sportsmanship
preparing for his first pinewood derby race...
the kid: mommy, I hope I win. but if I don't that'll be okay. because it's all about having fun. and we can have fun even if we don't win. but I really hope I win.
he won his first race and started crying...
me: why are you crying? you won.
the kid: I know. I'm crying because I'm happy. and I'm sad for the kids who didn't win. all at the same time.
he came in 5th place overall and 2nd for his pack... and started crying again...
me: why are you so sad? 2nd place is awesome.
the kid: it's been a really long day and I'm just ready to go home. I'm happy but I'm more tired than happy.
